Yeast-Free Selenium is a potent antioxidant that protects the body from tissue damage and supports cardiovascular, lung, prostate and colon health. Selenium also maintains a healthy immune system and may help reduce the incidence and severity of cold sores and shingles. Important for proper thyroid function, selenium also has anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce the symptoms of arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, and eczema. It may also protect against cataracts and macular degeneration.
This Jamieson product is made with yeast-free selenium that is chelated (microbound) to an amino acid for optimal absorption. It combines selenium with three additional potent antioxidants, beta-carotene, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E that work synergistically to prevent free radical damage in the body.

Restrictions
Drug Interactions: Glucocorticoids (cortisol-based anti-inflammatory drugs) and anti-convulsant/anti-epileptic medications may decrease the body’s supply of selenium. Individuals requiring total parenteral nutrition (TPN) for long-term periods are at risk of selenium deficiency.
Vitamin E may cause an increase in blood clotting time. Individuals taking anticoagulant drugs should avoid taking Vitamin E. Statins, Sibutramine, Orlistat, and prenatal drugs may interact with beta-carotene. Mixed amphetamines, Propanolol (medication for high blood pressure), Tetracycline, and Warfarin (blood thinning medication) can interact with vitamin C.
Nutrient Depletions: Iron and copper deficiency increase the risk of selenium deficiency. Selenium deficiency may worsen the effects of an iodine deficiency on thyroid function. Alcohol, mineral oil, and smoking may deplete beta-carotene. Vitamin E may be depleted by Cholestyramnine Resin, Colestipol, Isoniazid, and Mineral Oil. Acetaminophen, Amphicillin, alcohol, Aspirin, Bumetanide, Carbidopa, Clozapine, Cyclophosphamide, Cyclosporin, Corticosteroids, Nitroglycerin, oral contraceptives, and Torsemide may deplete vitamin C.
Supportive Interactions: Vitamin E enhances the effectiveness of selenium, vitamin C and beta-carotene. Vitamin C amplifies the effects of loop diuretics, and may reduce the development of tolerance for nitrate medications prescribed for heart disease.
Warnings and Precautions: Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you have a history of non-melanoma skin cancer.
Toxicity, Adverse Warnings and Side Effects: Do not exceed recommended dosage. Doses of selenium greater than 400 micrograms have been associated with loss of fingernails and hair, itchiness of the skin, nausea, garlic breath odour, fatigue, irritability, depression, and anxiety. Taking large doses of beta-carotene may lead to a yellow-orange skin tone.
